Zlatibor is Serbia's most visited mountain, and for good reason — close enough for a weekend from Belgrade (about two and a half hours' drive), with mountain air, a lake, and ethno-tourism nearby. Here's what's worth seeing on a day or two.
Zlatibor Lake and the promenade. The heart of town — the loop trail around the lake is an easy 30-minute walk, with benches, cafés and views that shift through the day. Best early morning, before it fills up.
The Tornik gondola. One of the longest gondolas in Europe takes you to Tornik peak in about 20 minutes, with views over the whole plateau. It's the ski-lift access in winter and a great short-hike starting point in summer.
Sirogojno — the Staro Selo museum. Twenty minutes from the centre, this open-air museum preserves the look of a traditional Zlatibor village — log houses, tools, a 19th-century way of life. Pair it with lunch at one of the nearby ethno-restaurants.
Mokra Gora and the Šargan Eight. With a full day, drive to Mokra Gora — the famous figure-eight narrow-gauge railway and Emir Kusturica's Drvengrad village are both about 30 minutes away.
